Merchants assume price display and sale badges are one toggle, but the compare-at-price setting alone shows up under a different name, a different default, and a different file in each of the six UTD themes checked here.
Merchants type “shopify sale badge theme” expecting one setting they can turn on and forget. What the theme files actually show is that price display and sale-related features are scattered across a dozen different section files, under a dozen different names, with defaults that disagree from theme to theme. There is no single “sale badge” checkbox in any of the six UTD themes checked, Allure, Boutique, Gain, Impression, Ultra, and Victory. The closest thing is the compare-at-price display in the cart, and even that changes shape depending on which theme it lives in.
Five of the six themes use the identical field name show_compare_at_price_in_cart, a checkbox stored in config/settings_schema.json, and it defaults to off in every single one of them: Allure, Boutique, Gain, Ultra, and Victory. The difference is not the field, it is the crowd around it. In Allure that checkbox sits in a settings group of just 1 item. In Boutique the same checkbox sits among 9 neighbors, in Gain among 7, in Ultra among 14, and in Victory among 26. A merchant hunting for the toggle in Victory has to scroll past far more unrelated fields than a merchant on Allure does. Impression breaks from the naming pattern entirely, calling its version enable_compare_products, also off by default, filed in config/settings_schema.json alongside 6 other settings, and paired with a separate editor section called “Image comparison” in sections/image-compare.liquid.
Anyone building a sale page usually reaches for a countdown timer next to the price, and this is where the six themes diverge the most. Allure and Impression both use a checkbox called enable_timer, off by default, inside sections/banner.liquid, with neighboring setting counts of 11 and 20. Boutique and Gain move to a select field called timer_type, defaulting to end_date, inside sections/banner.liquid, with 67 and 48 neighbors respectively, and Boutique alone adds a dedicated editor section called “Countdown banner” in sections/countdown-banner.liquid. Ultra keeps the timer_type field and the end_date default but relocates it to sections/banner-animation-heading.liquid, where it sits inside the largest settings group of the six, 74 items. Victory uses a fourth name, enable_countdown_timer, off by default, inside sections/banner.liquid, with 41 neighbors. Four themes, four different field identities, one shared idea.
Five of the six themes, Boutique, Gain, Impression, Ultra, and Victory, use the same checkbox name for both Product Filters and Color Swatches: show_color_swatch_in_filters, living in sections/search-template.liquid or sections/collection-body.liquid. Allure instead exposes a select field called filters_type, defaulting to top-bar, and Ultra duplicates that pattern with its own filters_type field defaulting to horizontal, while still keeping the swatch checkbox separately. Victory stands out as the only theme where show_color_swatch_in_filters defaults to on rather than off, both for the filters feature (5 neighboring settings) and the swatches feature (14 neighboring settings). Every other theme ships that checkbox off by default.
| Theme (UTD marker) | Compare-at price in cart setting | Default | Neighboring settings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Allure (UTD) | show_compare_at_price_in_cart | off | 1 |
| Boutique | show_compare_at_price_in_cart | off | 9 |
| Gain | show_compare_at_price_in_cart | off | 7 |
| Impression | enable_compare_products | off | 6 |
| Ultra | show_compare_at_price_in_cart | off | 14 |
| Victory | show_compare_at_price_in_cart | off | 26 |
Three of the six themes, Boutique, Impression, and Ultra, put a text field called upsell_heading inside sections/cart-drawer.liquid, and the default wording differs: Boutique and Ultra ship “Upsell products,” Impression ships “You might also like.” Allure uses the identical field name but defaults to “Recommended products,” and keeps only 2 total settings in that group versus Impression’s 8. Gain and Victory take a different route entirely, building the upsell block straight into snippets/cart-upsell.liquid with no separate on/off switch exposed in the theme editor, so a merchant on either of those two themes edits the code path directly rather than a settings panel.
The counts and file paths in this piece rest on a direct read of each theme’s own settings_schema.json and section liquid files, checked across Allure 1.2.5, Boutique 2.3.4, Gain 4.3.1, Impression 1.1.1, Ultra 2.3.4, and Victory 1.2.2 on September 13, 2026, with the live storefront captures for Gain, Ultra, Allure, Boutique, Victory, and Impression pulled the same day from their public demo stores. UTD’s six themes sit inside the same public listing as every other vendor on the Shopify Theme Store, and merchants comparing sale-related settings can check that listing directly rather than assume the vendor name predicts feature parity.
Anyone shopping for a theme on the strength of its sale badge or price display should read the actual settings_schema.json for the theme in question rather than trust a marketing screenshot, because the field name, the default, and the number of neighboring settings all differ even among six themes from a single vendor. Pull up the specific file path named here for the feature that matters most, whether that is the cart drawer, the banner section, or the search template, and confirm the default before launch.
It is not a single named 'sale badge' toggle in any of the six themes checked. The closest control is `show_compare_at_price_in_cart`, a checkbox living in config/settings_schema.json in Allure, Boutique, Gain, and Ultra, and it defaults to off in all four. Victory has the same setting name and same off default but keeps it inside a settings group of 26 items rather than the smaller groups seen elsewhere. Impression uses a different name, `enable_compare_products`, also off by default, filed under config/settings_schema.json with 6 neighboring settings.
No. Allure and Impression both use a checkbox called `enable_timer` inside sections/banner.liquid, off by default, with 11 and 20 neighboring settings respectively. Boutique and Gain switch to a select field called `timer_type` defaulting to end_date, with 67 and 48 neighboring settings. Ultra also uses `timer_type` defaulting to end_date but inside sections/banner-animation-heading.liquid with 74 neighboring settings, the largest group of the six. Victory uses yet another checkbox name, `enable_countdown_timer`, off by default, with 41 neighboring settings.
Product Filters and Color Swatches both run through the same checkbox, `show_color_swatch_in_filters`, in Boutique, Gain, Impression, Ultra, and Victory, though Allure and Ultra name their filter type field `filters_type` instead with defaults of top-bar and horizontal respectively. Victory is the only one of the six where that swatch checkbox defaults to on rather than off. The neighboring settings count for Color Swatches ranges from 5 in four themes up to 15 in Boutique and 14 in Victory.
No. Boutique, Impression, and Ultra all expose a text field called `upsell_heading` in sections/cart-drawer.liquid, defaulting to 'Upsell products' in Boutique and Ultra and to 'You might also like' in Impression. Allure uses the same field name but defaults to 'Recommended products'. Gain and Victory instead build the feature directly into the theme code, in snippets/cart-upsell.liquid, with no separate toggle exposed in the editor for that block.
The settings named in the facts here cover the cart drawer and the settings schema, specifically `show_compare_at_price_in_cart`, which controls display inside the cart rather than on the product or collection page. Every theme with that setting keeps it off by default. No separate on-page badge setting appears in the file paths measured for any of the six themes.
