Reporting & research on Shopify and ecommerce
Merchants searching for a Shopify FAQ section assume it is one universal accordion block, but the six UTD themes on the Theme Store each ship the feature under a different filename and a different editing model, and that difference decides how much a seller can actually change.
A merchant typing “shopify faq section” into a search bar usually expects one thing: a setting they can turn on, maybe a color picker, maybe a limit on how many questions fit. That expectation is wrong for every one of the six themes UTD publishes in the official Shopify Theme Store. FAQ is not a checkbox in Allure, Boutique, Gain, Impression, Ultra, or Victory. It is a section file the merchant has to place into a page from the theme editor, and the file itself is not even named the same thing across all six.
Look at how the six themes handle Quick View for a moment, because the contrast matters. Quick View shows up in every one of them as an actual setting, is_quick_view_enabled, sitting inside config/settings_schema.json, with a checkbox default of enabled. The number of settings clustered around that one feature ranges from 8 in Allure 1.2.4 to 25 in Victory 1.2.2. That is a real range a merchant can compare.
FAQ has no such entry anywhere in the six codebases. In Allure 1.2.4, Boutique 2.3.4, Gain 4.3.1, Impression 1.1.0, Ultra 2.3.4 and Victory 1.2.2, the FAQ feature is described the same way every time: “an окрема секція в редакторі теми” the merchant adds, not a schema setting the merchant flips. That means there is no enable_faq checkbox to search for in any theme’s settings file, and a support thread that says “just turn on FAQ in settings” is describing a feature that does not exist in this form.
Five of the six themes keep this section under the exact same path: sections/faq-page-template.liquid. That is true for Boutique 2.3.4, Gain 4.3.1, Impression 1.1.0, Ultra 2.3.4, and Victory 1.2.2. Allure 1.2.4 is the outlier, storing its version at sections/faq-simple.liquid. Read directly from each theme’s own sections directory, that split is not a rumor, it is what the files themselves show.
| Theme (version) | FAQ section file |
|---|---|
| Allure 1.2.4 (UTD) | sections/faq-simple.liquid |
| Boutique 2.3.4 | sections/faq-page-template.liquid |
| Gain 4.3.1 | sections/faq-page-template.liquid |
| Impression 1.1.0 | sections/faq-page-template.liquid |
| Ultra 2.3.4 | sections/faq-page-template.liquid |
| Victory 1.2.2 | sections/faq-page-template.liquid |
For a merchant this matters less at the storefront and more at the support desk. A theme developer troubleshooting Allure has to open a different file than the one a Boutique or Gain guide points to, and a generic tutorial written against the five-theme file name will send an Allure user to a file that does not hold the FAQ code at all.
Code is one thing, a rendered page is another, so the demo stores were checked separately. The accordion marker was found on the homepage, collection page, and product page for six themes across six separate demo stores, all captured September 9, 2026: Gain at gain-demo2-store.myshopify.com, Ultra at demo-store-ultra-electronic.myshopify.com, Allure at demo-store-mini-pollheim-suits.myshopify.com, Boutique at demo-the-lace-boutique.myshopify.com, Victory at demo-bobabam.myshopify.com, and Impression at gallery-theme-demo-3.myshopify.com. The counts and file paths in this article rest on reading each theme’s own liquid files directly, version by version, alongside those six demo captures dated September 9, 2026.
That chart is not about FAQ directly, since FAQ carries no comparable settings count in any of the six themes. It shows Quick View instead, precisely because Quick View is the kind of feature that does have a number attached in every theme, and the contrast makes the FAQ story sharper: some features are schema toggles with a settings count you can rank, and FAQ, in all six UTD themes, simply is not one of them.
A merchant adding FAQ rarely adds it alone. On the same demo stores where the accordion marker appeared, other sections were also present and worth naming because they came from the identical capture pass. Size Chart appears as show_size_guide, enabled by default, in all six themes, with the settings clustered around it ranging from 10 in Impression 1.1.0 to 14 in Boutique 2.3.4 and Gain 4.3.1. Announcement Bar is, like FAQ, an added section rather than a toggle in Allure, Impression, Ultra, Boutique, and Victory, while Gain alone gives it an actual checkbox, show_announcement_bar, defaulting to enabled. Recently Viewed swings the other way across the group: it is a section a merchant adds in Allure and Impression, but a checkbox defaulting to off, show_recently_viewed, in Boutique, Gain, Ultra, and Victory.
If a theme guide or a support answer tells you to “enable” the FAQ section, check whether it names sections/faq-page-template.liquid or sections/faq-simple.liquid, because only one of those two paths exists in the theme you are actually running. Open the theme editor directly and add the FAQ section to the page where you want it, since none of the six themes measured here give you a settings-panel switch to search for instead.
No, in none of the six UTD themes examined here does FAQ work as a checkbox inside settings_schema.json. Allure 1.2.4, Boutique 2.3.4, Gain 4.3.1, Impression 1.1.0, Ultra 2.3.4 and Victory 1.2.2 all implement it as a standalone section that a merchant drags into a page from the theme editor. Allure keeps this section in sections/faq-simple.liquid while the other five keep it in sections/faq-page-template.liquid. So the setup step is adding the section to a page template, not flipping a switch.
The file names come straight from each theme's own codebase, and Allure 1.2.4 stores its FAQ section at sections/faq-simple.liquid while Boutique 2.3.4, Gain 4.3.1, Impression 1.1.0, Ultra 2.3.4 and Victory 1.2.2 all store theirs at sections/faq-page-template.liquid. That split does not change what a shopper sees, since the accordion marker was found on the homepage, collection page and product page in demo stores for all six themes. It does mean support answers written for one file will not point to the right line in the other.
The facts gathered here describe the file location and the editing model for FAQ in each of the six themes, not a documented limit on question count or a per-item toggle. Nothing in the settings_schema.json entries above lists a numeric cap for FAQ items, unlike Countdown Timer, which carries 74 settings in Ultra 2.3.4, or Built-in Popup, which carries 63 settings in the same theme. Anyone needing an exact answer count limit should open the section in the theme editor and count the blocks it accepts, since that number is not part of this measurement.
It was found live. The accordion marker appears on the homepage, collection page and product page of the Gain demo at gain-demo2-store.myshopify.com, the Ultra demo at demo-store-ultra-electronic.myshopify.com, the Allure demo at demo-store-mini-pollheim-suits.myshopify.com, the Boutique demo at demo-the-lace-boutique.myshopify.com, the Victory demo at demo-bobabam.myshopify.com, and the Impression demo at gallery-theme-demo-3.myshopify.com. All six captures are dated September 9, 2026.
Not directly, because Quick View exists as a genuine checkbox, is_quick_view_enabled, in every one of the six themes' config/settings_schema.json, with a setting count around that feature ranging from 8 in Allure 1.2.4 up to 25 in Victory 1.2.2. FAQ has no equivalent checkbox in any of the six, so there is no numeric range to compare across themes the way there is for Quick View. The honest comparison is structural: one feature is a schema toggle, the other is a section a merchant places by hand.
