Reporting & research on Shopify and ecommerce
Shopify's clothing filter returns about 240 themes across 11 pages. We shortlisted the ones worth your time, and for seven of them we have our own Lighthouse numbers from live demo stores instead of vendor promises.
Picking a Shopify theme for a clothing brand means choosing from the most crowded shelf in the store: the official clothing and fashion filter returned 11 pages and roughly 240 themes when we checked it on July 14, 2026. Almost every listing shows the same beautiful editorial screenshots, so screenshots cannot be the deciding signal. Speed can be, because we can measure it.
Seven themes from that clothing filter were part of our July Lighthouse audit of 15 live demo stores, which gives this shortlist something most “best fashion theme” listicles do not have: numbers we produced ourselves, same tool, same day, same throttling, three runs per demo.
| Theme (vendor) | Median LCP | CLS | TBT | Perf score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boutique (UTD) | 3.67s | 0.007 | 68ms | 85 |
| Allure (UTD) | 4.33s | 0.001 | 29ms | 81 |
| Symmetry (Clean Canvas) | 6.33s | 0.038 | 215ms | 70 |
| Prestige (Maestrooo) | 6.70s | 0.000 | 104ms | 62 |
| Gain (UTD) | 7.40s | 0.011 | 158ms | 61 |
| Impulse (Archetype) | 9.18s | 0.129 | 304ms | 58 |
| Motion (Archetype) | 15.78s | 0.000 | 353ms | 58 |
Boutique led the measured clothing pack at 3.67 seconds. Its Theme Store page positions it squarely at fashion labels and apparel stores that live on strong visuals and curated collections, it ships five presets, and in our audit its demo outpaced every free Shopify theme including Dawn (6.17s) and Horizon (12.32s). If you want the editorial look without the editorial load time, this is the data-backed starting point.
Allure followed at 4.33 seconds, with the standout secondary numbers of the group: 0.001 CLS and just 29ms total blocking time, so the page holds still and stays responsive while images arrive. Its vendor pitches it directly at clothing brands that sell through big visuals, and among everything fashion-tagged that we measured, Allure’s 29ms TBT was the lowest.
Symmetry (6.33s) is the safe institutional choice: Clean Canvas claims over 70,000 stores on its listing and 16 years of theme building. Mid-table speed, enormous configuration surface, drag-and-drop everything.
Prestige (6.70s) is the luxury specialist. Maestrooo built it for high-end brand presentation with 30+ configurable sections, and its zero CLS in our runs fits the polished positioning. LCP is mid-table, so treat the hero imagery with restraint.
Gain (7.40s) leans on oversized images and animated banners. Its listing pitches it across niches from kidswear to home decor, and for a clothing brand the appeal is the big-canvas merchandising. The demo pays for those visuals in LCP, so yours will too unless you compress harder than the demo does.
Impulse (9.18s) is Archetype’s fashion bestseller, and its listing leans on exactly that: the one everyone uses, with advanced built-in promotions. Our runs also recorded the worst layout shift of the seven (0.129 CLS), which on mobile means the page visibly jumps while loading. Merchants clearly succeed on it anyway, but go in knowing the demo numbers.
Motion (15.78s) closes the table. It is built around animation and video, and its own demo shows the cost: the slowest LCP in our entire 15-theme audit. If moving imagery is your brand, budget real optimization work or accept the wait.
Boutique, Allure and Gain all come from UTD, whose full Theme Store lineup is listed here with demo links if you want to run your own comparison.
Four more clothing-filter themes earn a mention on the strength of their store listings, checked July 14, 2026. We have no speed data for them, so no speed claims.
Fashion buyers browse on phones, and clothing pages are the heaviest pages in ecommerce because imagery is the product. That makes the LCP column above the closest thing to an objective tiebreaker this niche has. Pick the aesthetic you need from the shortlist, then let the measured numbers break the tie, because a theme’s demo is the theme at its best behaved, and the gap between 3.7 and 15.8 seconds does not close itself after purchase.
From the themes in Shopify's clothing filter that we measured ourselves, Boutique had the fastest demo at 3.67s median mobile LCP, followed by Allure at 4.33s. Symmetry and Prestige sat mid-table around 6.3 to 6.7s. Bestsellers Impulse (9.18s) and Motion (15.78s) trade speed for promotion and animation features, and that trade should be a conscious choice.
The pattern in our data is that image-heavy and video-heavy demos are slower regardless of niche, and fashion demos lean on large imagery more than most. The median across all 15 demos we audited was 7.40s, and four of the seven clothing-filter themes we measured beat it.
Paid themes in the official Shopify Theme Store list between $100 and $500 as a one-time purchase. Shopify's own free themes, including Dawn, cost nothing and measured mid-table in our audit.
They can, and our numbers show it: Motion, a theme built around animation and video, produced the slowest demo we measured at 15.78s LCP. The feature is not the problem, the payload is. If you use video, keep it off the first screen or poster-frame it.
