Merchants assume predictive search is one uniform Shopify feature, but the six UTD themes ship it with different setting counts and different companion toggles, so the same search box behaves differently depending on which theme sits underneath it.
A merchant searching for “shopify search filter themes” usually wants to know which theme has the best predictive search box. That question has no clean answer, because predictive search is not one feature with one setting. It is a bundle, and the size of that bundle changes from theme to theme even when the core checkbox has the same name and the same default.
Every one of the six UTD themes checked here, Allure 1.2.4, Boutique 2.3.3, Gain 4.3.1, Impression 1.1.0, Ultra 2.3.4, and Victory 1.2.1, ships a setting called predictive_search_articles, a checkbox labeled “Enable search by articles,” enabled by default, and stored in config/settings_schema.json. That much is uniform. What differs is how many total settings the theme groups around that feature. Allure 1.2.4 groups 7 settings around it. Boutique 2.3.3 and Ultra 2.3.4 each group 6. Impression 1.1.0 and Victory 1.2.1 each group 5. Gain 4.3.1 groups only 2. These numbers were read from each theme’s own settings_schema.json and section liquid files at the versions named above. A merchant who picks a theme expecting a full search configuration panel because a sales page says “predictive search included” may open Gain 4.3.1 and find a much thinner settings surface than Allure 1.2.4 offers for the same nominal feature.
All six themes also carry a distinct editor section called Search, built from sections/search-template.liquid, which is separate from the enable checkbox itself. That section is where filter type and swatch display live, which is a different concern from whether articles show up in search suggestions.
The Product Filters feature splits into two behaviors worth separating: what layout the filter bar uses, and whether color swatches appear inside it. Allure 1.2.4 sets filters_type to top-bar by default, in sections/search-template.liquid, with 5 total settings nearby. Ultra 2.3.4 sets the same concept, filters_type, to horizontal by default, but in a different file, sections/collection-body.liquid, with 7 total settings nearby. Boutique 2.3.3, Gain 4.3.1, and Impression 1.1.0 don’t expose a layout selector in the facts gathered here; instead their filter settings center on show_color_swatch_in_filters, defaulting to off, with 5 total settings each.
Color swatches specifically get their own line because the checkbox name and default vary by theme in a way that matters for anyone comparing listings. The table below reads the show_color_swatch_in_filters checkbox and the total setting count around Color Swatches as a standalone feature, which is a slightly different count than the Product Filters count above because some themes group them separately in code even though they share a setting name.
| Theme | Swatch checkbox default | Total settings on Color Swatches | File |
|---|---|---|---|
| Allure 1.2.4 (UTD) | off | 4 | sections/search-template.liquid |
| Boutique 2.3.3 | off | 15 | sections/search-template.liquid |
| Gain 4.3.1 | off | 5 | sections/search-template.liquid |
| Impression 1.1.0 | off | 5 | sections/search-template.liquid |
| Ultra 2.3.4 | off | 5 | sections/collection-body.liquid |
| Victory 1.2.1 | on | 14 | sections/search-template.liquid |
Victory 1.2.1 is the outlier here, defaulting the swatch checkbox to on rather than off, and carrying 14 total settings around it, the second highest count in the group after Boutique 2.3.3’s 15.
Three of the six themes, Allure 1.2.4, Impression 1.1.0, and Victory 1.2.1, build mega menu directly into snippets/header-mega-menu.liquid with no separate on/off switch in the theme editor. The feature works as part of the header block rather than as something a merchant toggles independently, which is a measured fact about the code, not a missing capability. The other three themes take a different code path: Boutique 2.3.3 exposes main_mega_menu_text_color defaulting to #9D9D9D with 6 total settings in sections/header.liquid, Gain 4.3.1 exposes enable_mega_menu_borders as a checkbox on by default with 6 total settings in the same file name, and Ultra 2.3.4 exposes megamenu_image_text defaulting to #ffffff with 4 total settings. Demo store scans confirm the mega-menu marker present across home, collection, and product pages on the Gain, Ultra, Allure, Boutique, and Victory demo stores, and on the Impression demo store as well, so the feature renders in every case checked regardless of which code path built it.
Quick Buy / Quick View follows the same is_quick_view_enabled checkbox name across all six themes, enabled by default in every one, but the total setting count around it ranges from 8 in Allure 1.2.4 up to 25 in Victory 1.2.1. Ultra 2.3.4 sits at 21, Boutique 2.3.3 at 18, Gain 4.3.1 at 13, and Impression 1.1.0 at 11. Built-in Popup shows an even wider spread: Allure 1.2.4 and Impression 1.1.0 both key off newsletter_popup_cookie_time with a default value of 1 and 36 and 28 total settings respectively, while Boutique 2.3.3, Gain 4.3.1, and Ultra 2.3.4 key off is_newsletter_popup_enabled defaulting to off, with 55, 58, and 63 total settings respectively. Victory 1.2.1 uses the cookie-time pattern too, defaulting to 1, with 17 total settings, the lowest popup count in the group.
These counts were read directly from each theme’s own settings_schema.json and section liquid files at the versions named throughout this piece, cross-checked against live demo store pages scanned for feature markers on September 8, 2026. UTD sits in this comparison as one vendor among the ones checked here, publishing six themes through the Shopify Theme Store, with no single theme among them topping every setting count measured.
If a listing promises predictive search or filter swatches, open the theme’s live demo and count the settings yourself rather than trusting the feature name alone. Compare the specific file and default value against what is documented here before assuming two themes with the same checkbox label behave the same way.
No. All six UTD themes checked here ship a `predictive_search_articles` checkbox that is enabled by default, but the total number of settings clustered around the search feature differs: Allure 1.2.4 has 7, Boutique 2.3.3 has 6, Gain 4.3.1 has 2, Impression 1.1.0 has 5, Ultra 2.3.4 has 6, and Victory 1.2.1 has 5. A merchant moving from one theme to another will find a different number of knobs even though the checkbox name is identical.
In every one of the six themes, the `predictive_search_articles` setting lives in config/settings_schema.json, and each theme also carries a separate section called Search built from sections/search-template.liquid. That split means the on/off switch and the section layout are two different places in the editor, not one.
It depends on the theme. Allure 1.2.4, Boutique 2.3.3, Gain 4.3.1, and Impression 1.1.0 each expose `show_color_swatch_in_filters` as a checkbox that defaults to off, inside sections/search-template.liquid. Victory 1.2.1 exposes the same setting name but it defaults to on. Ultra 2.3.4 keeps the swatch checkbox off by default too, but its filter section lives in sections/collection-body.liquid instead of search-template.liquid.
In Allure 1.2.4, Impression 1.1.0, and Victory 1.2.1, mega menu is built directly into snippets/header-mega-menu.liquid with no separate switch in the editor, so it works as part of the header block rather than as an independent feature. Boutique 2.3.3, Gain 4.3.1, and Ultra 2.3.4 instead expose a color setting for the mega menu text, for example `main_mega_menu_text_color` in Boutique 2.3.3 defaulting to #9D9D9D, which confirms a mega menu section exists there with configurable styling rather than a single on/off switch.
Ultra 2.3.4 carries 63 total settings around its Built-in Popup feature, the highest of the six, with `is_newsletter_popup_enabled` defaulting to off in config/settings_schema.json. Gain 4.3.1 sits close behind at 58, Boutique 2.3.3 at 55, Impression 1.1.0 at 28, Victory 1.2.1 at 17, and Allure 1.2.4 at 36. Every one of these themes also carries a separate age verification section, named Age check popup in four of them and Age verifier Popup in Victory 1.2.1.
