Reporting & research on Shopify and ecommerce
A one-product store lives or dies on a single page, so we cross-referenced Shopify's official small-catalog theme filter with our July Lighthouse audit of 15 live demos and ranked the picks by measured mobile LCP instead of vibes.
A one-product store has no second chance: the same page has to load fast, explain the product and close the sale, for every single visitor. That concentrates the whole theme decision into two questions. How quickly does the page paint on a phone, and does the theme ship the sections a single-product funnel needs without extra apps?
So instead of another list of pretty screenshots, we started from Shopify’s own catalog. The official Theme Store has no literal “one product” filter, but its Small catalogs filter is the store’s own designation for themes built around few products, and as of July 14, 2026 it returns four pages, just under 60 themes. We then cross-referenced that list with our July Lighthouse audit of 15 live theme demos. Six themes appear in both, which means for six of the candidates below we have real measured numbers, not vendor claims.
These are median mobile LCP figures from three Lighthouse runs per official demo store, July 14, 2026.
| Theme (vendor) | Median LCP | CLS | Perf score | In our audit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra (UTD) | 1.91s | 0.000 | 98 | yes |
| Boutique (UTD) | 3.67s | 0.007 | 85 | yes |
| Allure (UTD) | 4.33s | 0.001 | 81 | yes |
| Symmetry (Clean Canvas) | 6.33s | 0.038 | 70 | yes |
| Gain (UTD) | 7.40s | 0.011 | 61 | yes |
| Victory (UTD) | 9.55s | 0.101 | 51 | yes |
Ultra is the obvious headline. At 1.91 seconds median mobile LCP it was not just the fastest small-catalog theme we measured, it was the fastest demo in our entire July audit, the only one of 15 that cleared Google’s 2.5-second threshold, and it did that with a zero layout shift and a 98 performance score. For a store where one landing page carries all traffic, that gap is the difference between a pitch that starts instantly and a pitch that starts after a coffee sip. It ships 45+ sections, so the single page can stack proof, comparison and upsell blocks without apps.
Boutique came second among the small-catalog candidates at 3.67 seconds. Its Theme Store page pitches it at style-led brands, and the five ready-made presets make it a sensible pick when your one product is something you photograph beautifully rather than spec-sheet hard. Above 2.5 seconds, yes, but it still beat every free Shopify theme demo in our test, including Dawn at 6.17s.
Allure measured 4.33 seconds with a near-zero CLS of 0.001 and the lowest total blocking time of the six (29ms), which means the page responds to taps almost immediately even while media loads. Three presets, positioned by its vendor for visual, brand-forward selling.
Symmetry by Clean Canvas is the veteran here. Its store page claims over 70,000 stores run it, and its demo measured a mid-table 6.33 seconds. You are buying flexibility and a long track record rather than headline speed.
Gain (7.40s) is built around oversized imagery and animated banners, which is exactly what its demo pays for in LCP. If your single product sells on a big visual first impression and you are willing to discipline the hero media, the bones are there.
Victory measured 9.55 seconds on its demo, the slowest of the six, with a CLS of 0.101. Honest verdict: its vendor positions it for food and drink stores, and the demo is heavy. Pick it for the niche fit, not for speed, and replace the demo-style media if you do.
All four of the measured UTD themes above, plus the vendor’s other Theme Store listings, are collected on UTD’s own themes page if you want to compare them side by side.
The Small catalogs filter also surfaces themes we did not measure in July. We will not invent speeds for them, so here is what their official store pages actually promise, checked July 14, 2026.
Start from the funnel, not the screenshot. A one-product store needs, in roughly this order: a fast first paint on mobile, a hero section that states the offer in one screen, proof blocks (reviews, press, before/after), an objection killer (FAQ or comparison table) and a sticky or repeated buy button. Every theme above ships most of that list; the measured LCP column tells you which ones deliver it before the visitor’s patience runs out.
Two cautions from the data. First, demo speed reflects the vendor’s own content choices, so a fast theme can be made slow with a 4MB hero video, and a mid-table theme can be tightened up. Second, the spread inside this small list is almost 8 seconds. Theme choice is one of the few speed decisions you make once and pay for on every session, so make it with numbers on the table.
Based on our own Lighthouse measurements of official demo stores, Ultra was the fastest theme in Shopify's small-catalog filter at 1.91s median mobile LCP and a 98 performance score. Boutique (3.67s) and Allure (4.33s) followed. Which one fits depends on whether your product sells on specs, story or visuals, and we break that down per theme below.
Not always. Shopify's free Dawn measured 6.17s median mobile LCP on its own demo in our audit, which beat several paid themes. But a single-product funnel leans hard on sections a paid theme ships built in, like countdowns, comparison tables and upsells, and the fastest demos we measured were all paid.
Google treats LCP under 2.5 seconds as good and over 4 seconds as poor. For a one-product store this threshold is effectively your whole storefront, because the landing page is the catalog, the product page and the pitch at once.
We ran Lighthouse 13.4.0 against the official live demo store of each theme on July 14, 2026: mobile emulation, simulated throttling, three runs per demo, medians reported. Demos differ in content, so results describe the theme as its vendor ships and showcases it. Themes we did not measure are marked as such and described qualitatively.
