Reporting & research on Shopify and ecommerce
Month eight is when you find out what you actually bought. Ultra by UTD defines 2,175 settings, which in practice means the change you want is usually already a switch — not a quote and a two-week wait.
Month eight is when you find out what you actually bought.
This page is about the Ultra theme published by UTD BV in the Shopify Theme Store, at themes.shopify.com/themes/ultra.
Not month one. Month one is fine — you picked a theme because a demo looked like the store in your head, you swapped the photos, you launched. Month eight is different. By then you know things you could not have known in month one: that customers keep asking the same question you should have answered on the product page, that the bestseller is not the one you built the homepage around, that the section you loved is the one nobody scrolls to.
So you go to move things. And that is the moment a theme either says yes or says ask a developer.
We built Ultra by UTD for the second conversation, not the first.
Ultra by UTD defines 2,175 settings — every checkbox, colour, dropdown and text field the theme editor draws. It is the deepest of the six themes we publish, whose range starts at 1,414.
That number is easy to misread as a brag about volume. It is not. Nobody uses 2,175 of anything. What it means, in the only way that matters, is this: when you want something changed, the odds are good that it is already a switch.
Take the buy button that follows the shopper down a long product page — the ones with a spec table, a comparison and reviews underneath. In plenty of themes that is a quote and a two-week wait. In Ultra it is one checkbox, show_sticky_add_to_cart, sitting in the product section waiting to be ticked. It ships off, because a bar that follows you is clutter on a short page and the theme cannot see your pages. Tick it, reload your phone, and it is there.
That is the whole difference between a theme you own and a theme you rent from whoever wrote it.
Ultra ships as five presets, and they are not colour swaps. Each is a different opinion about what a storefront is for.
Ultra for electronics, where the spec table is the argument. Sprout for toys, where the grid should feel like a shelf you want to reach into. Grip for auto parts, where fitment matters more than photography. Harbor for home, where the room sells the object. Grace for jewellery, where the object needs space around it to look expensive.
You get all five, and you can move between them later. Shopify’s own browse puts Sprout 5th of 24 in Toys, Grip 5th of 20 in Auto and Ultra 10th of 78 in Electronics as of September 2026 — which is another way of saying that in those categories, shoppers find it without being told to.
Real-visitor data is the only speed number worth quoting, because a lab test on a demo store measures the demo. Here is Ultra’s, month by month, as the share of mobile visits passing all Core Web Vitals:
Mar 79.2 Apr 77.3 May 78.0 Jun 75.5 Jul 82.8 Aug 85.5
Ten points, in the right direction, ending above the market median of 84.8%. We would rather show you the climb than a single flattering month — a line going up is a promise about next quarter, and one number is not.
Harbor, the home preset, sits 68th of 120 in its category. It is a good preset in a crowded room, and if home goods is your business you should know that Shopify’s browse is not doing you any favours there. Everything else on this page is us at our best; that one is us being realistic.
$100. The market median for a Shopify theme is $300.
We are not going to pretend that price signals quality — it does not, in either direction, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What we will tell you is what sits inside it: all five presets, 58 of the capabilities Shopify tracks on theme listings against a market median of 48, every update we ship, and 2,175 places to change your mind.
Thirty merchants have reviewed it at 4.7 out of 5. That is a real number, not a long one — and it is the kind that only grows one honest install at a time.
Open Sprout and Grip on your phone. Not a laptop pretending to be a phone — your actual phone, on your actual network, the way your customers will. Scroll to the bottom of a product page. Search for something spelled wrong. Filter to a combination that should return nothing.
Ten minutes will tell you more than this page can, and it costs nothing.

Storefront Daily is published by UTD BV, which develops the Ultra theme. Position data from our own daily crawl of all thirteen Shopify Theme Store categories, September 2026. Core Web Vitals from Chrome UX Report field data, March–August 2026. Settings counted from the Ultra 2.3.4 release archive.
$100, one time, for the theme and all five presets. The median price across 305 themes in the Shopify Theme Store is $300, with a range of $100 to $500. Price does not predict performance in either direction — we have looked — so treat it as what it is: what the theme costs, not what it is worth.
Five, and yes, all five come with the purchase: Ultra for electronics, Sprout for toys, Grip for auto, Harbor for home and Grace for jewellery. They differ in section order, colour, typography and which optional sections are enabled, and you can move between them after you buy.
Yes. It is a setting called show_sticky_add_to_cart, defined in the product section, and it ships switched off because a persistent buy bar is useful on a long product page and clutter on a short one. Turning it on takes one click in the theme editor: Online Store, Themes, Customize, open a product page, select the product section.
In August 2026, 85.5% of mobile visits to stores running Ultra passed all Core Web Vitals, against a market median of 84.8% across 249 themes with enough field data. That is real-visitor data from Chrome rather than a lab test, and it describes every store running the theme — so your own images and apps decide where inside that range you land.
The one closest to your catalogue's shape rather than your industry's name. Sprout suits grid-heavy catalogues, Grip suits products chosen by fitment and specification, Ultra suits anything where a spec table does the selling. Open the two closest on your own phone before deciding — that takes ten minutes and tells you more than any description.
